Derek Jeter to be Honored

ALHAMBRA, CA- On Tuesday, the New York Yankees organization announced that Derek Jeter’s number two jersey will be retired early at Yankee Stadium in the 2017 season.

Jeter will be honored on May 14th, Mother’s Day, before the game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 20-year Yankee legend will also receive a plaque that will be located at Monument Park in center field at the stadium.

The former shortstop won five World Series titles, five gold gloves, five silver sluggers and made 14 all-star appearances for the boys in pinstripes. Jeter was also in the top 10 in MVP voting eight times in his career.

Yankees fans will receive another opportunity to celebrate Jeter’s career and his accomplishments. Jeter will be eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2020 and is expected to make it to Cooperstown.

Eric DIckerson Sidelined

ALHAMBRA, CA- Los Angeles Rams legend Eric Dickerson was told by the Rams that he was no longer wanted on sidelines at the Coliseum on Monday.

Dickerson received a personal call from head coach Jeff Fisher saying that players were uncomfortable with him being on sidelines during games. Dickerson has been openly criticizing the team for their play this season.

The 56-year-old appreciated the guts that Fisher took to make the call and says that Fisher told him as long as he is head coach, Dickerson was not allowed to be at games.

Hours after the report came out, Rams executive Kevin Demoff went on Twitter and tweeted to their account’s followers that former players are always allowed at practices and on the sidelines during games.

Dickerson says during the phone call with Fisher, he stood up to the coach because Fisher does not have the right to tell him what he can or can’t say about the Rams squad. Despite Demoff’s tweet, the legendary running back still won’t be attending any games as long as Fisher is the team's coach.

Jurgen Klinsmann Fired

ALHAMBRA, CA- The U.S. Soccer Federation in Chicago have fired Jurgen Klinsmann as manager on Monday.

The 52-year-old was fired after two consecutive world cup qualifier losses earlier this month. Klinsmann took over the squad back in 2011. He led the men’s national team to a record of 55 wins and 27 losses with 16 tie.

U.S. Soccer Federation President Sunil Gulati says the organization is appreciative of Klinsmann’s work over five years. Klinsmann led the squad to the knockout stage in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Klinsmann was under contract until after the 2018 World Cup, but Team USA were handed defeats by Mexico and Costa Rica in the World cup qualifiers earlier this month. The team is trying to secure a spot in the 2018 World Cup that will take place in Russia. These losses led Klinsmann to being shown the door.

Los Angeles Galaxy manager, Bruce Arena, agreed to a deal with the U.S. Soccer Federation to return as Team USA’s manager. Arena previously coached the national team in the 2002 and 2006 World Cups. 

Arena led the Galaxy to a record of 125 wins, 70 losses and 79 tie. Arena and his Galaxy squad made it to the Major League Soccer Finals four times, winning three out of the four trips. The 65-year-old managed the Galaxy for eight years and won three Major League Soccer titles and two MLS’ Supporters’ Shield. The Galaxy will start their search for a new manager to replace Arena.

Bill Walton is Missing his Bike

ALHAMBRA,  CA- NBA legend Bill Walton took to Twitter to call out an airline for losing his bike in Hawaii over the weekend on Monday.

The 64-year-old Hall of Famer waited five hours at the Maui Airport in Hawaii for his bike to arrive. With today's technology, Walton tweeted Hawaiian Airlines to voice his concerns for his bike.

Hawaiian Air was making it difficult for Walton, as he expressed his love for his bike repeatedly over Twitter. Hawaii Air's Twitter account was hoping to have a conversation in private message so the company could handle the damage control and embarrassment quietly. Thus leading to Walton expressing more displeasure with the account. A fan finally stepped up and was willing to put a posse together in Maui and lead the search for Walton's bike.

It is unknown if the fan followed through with his suggestion. Hawaii Air are making this a priority to find Walton's bike. Until then, the father of Los Angeles Lakers' coach, Luke, is playing the waiting game until his bike shows up.

UFC Fighter Suspension

ALHAMBRA, CA- UFC Fighter Jon “Bones” Jones was given a one-year suspension by UFC headquarters in Las Vegas on Monday.

Jones, 29, was suspended for testing positive for banned substances, clomiphene and letrozole, after failing a drug test back in June. Jones was then pulled from a UFC 200 fight against Daniel Cormier in July.

Jones says he always maintained his innocence and is happy to be cleared of allegations to intentionally taking a banned substance.The evidence brought before United States Anti-Doping Agency panel proved that Jones was not an intentional drug cheat.

Jones’ teammate, Eric Blasich, had given what Jones believed to be Cialis, a form of a sexual enhancement pill. Cialis is a brand form of tadalfil. Jones says he checked with his agent to make sure that the pill was not banned before taking it. 

UFC President Dana White says Jones not only loses one year of his career, but if he had moved up to heavyweight division, Jones will lose about 15 to 20 million dollars while serving the suspension. Jones stands to lose about nine million dollars as a light heavyweight fighter.

Pitcher Domestic Violence

ALHAMBRA, CA - New York Mets pitcher Jeurys Familia was arrested on a domestic violence charge Monday in New Jersey.

Familia, who recently finished his third season with the Mets, was featured in a new ad campaign for an anti-domestic violence organization last month.

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence working alongside New York Councilwoman Melissa Mark-Viverito is cutting ties with Familia and is removing all ads involving the Mets pitcher from their campaign.

Police say Familia caused “bodily injury to another” to another person.

Responding officers noticed a scratch on the chest and a bruise to the right cheek of the female victim.

The Mets organization says it is monitoring the situation.

The 27-year-old is likely to be disciplined by Major League Baseball, even if the charges are dropped.

Three MLB players were suspended under MLB’s domestic violence policy last year.

Infielder Jose Reyes received a 52-game suspension to begin the 2016 season as a member of the Colorado Rockies after an incident in Hawaii involving his wife.

After Reyes served his suspension, he was then released to sign with the Mets.

Then Cincinnati Reds closer, Aroldis Chapman, got a 30-game suspension in March after a 2015 incident involving his then-girlfriend.

Chapman, now the Chicago Cubs closer, is pitching in the 2016 World Series.

Outfielder Hector Olivera received an 82-game suspension for an incident involving a woman in Washington, D.C. 

Olivera was then traded by the Atlanta Braves and released by the San Diego Padres without playing in another game.

ALHAMBRA, CA - The mood in Cleveland this week has been exciting, but the joy hasn't been shared hasn't been shared by Eddie Robinson on Tuesday just before game one.

Robinson, 95, the last member of the 1948 Indians championship team, is upset that he hasn’t heard from the organization during the it’s run to the 2016 World Series.

After learning of his story, Indians fans are pushing for Robinson to throw the first pitch instead of Charlie Sheen. Sheen played the role of Indians pitcher Rick Vaughn in the movie, Major League.

Robinson is confused as to why the Indians haven't reached out to him and hopes the media will help.

The Indians have already announced that former Indians outfielder Kenny Lofton will throw the first pitch in game one Tuesday night.

Former second baseman Carlos Baerga will throw the first pitch in game two on Wednesday.

Lofton and Baerga were teammates on the 1995 Indians team that went to the World Series, but lost to the Atlanta Braves in six games.

Robinson says he doesn't hold any grudges and will still support the Indians in the World Series.

It is unknown if the Indians will ask Robinson and take part in the World Series.
